Greece – a country that was on my have to visit list, bucket list and every other possible list for as long as I can remember. I had always wanted to see the land where almost all of modern civilizations ideologies and societal systems were born, where great philosophers walked and which gave us a wealth of ideas to build the world as we see it today.
I finally made a trip to Greece in March of this year, and I was not let down. It was everything that I expected it to be – rich in culture and history, warm and welcoming greeks and a treasure trove of knowledge.
Although we were there only for about 10 days (I say ‘only’ because I so wanted to spend more time there), I wanted to share our itinerary incase someone had a few days and wanted to make the trip! I am going to write posts about each city and what we did there separately, this is just an overview of the 10 days. So here goes…
Day 1: Land in Athens.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Athens.
Day 3: Drive to Delphi in the AM. Visit Temple of Apollo and Museum. Walk in Delphi town! Delphi is about a 2 – 2.5 hour drive from Athens.
Day 3: Drive to Meteora in the evening from Delphi on the same day. Meteora is about a 3 hour drive from Delphi.
Day 4: Visit the Monasteries in Meteora in the AM.
Day 4: Drive back to Athens from Meteora on the same day in the PM.
Day 5: Sightseeing in Athens.
Day 6: Early morning flight to Santorini!
Day 6 – Day 7 – Day 8: Spend 2.5 happy, sunny and dreamy days in Santorini!
Day 9: Take flight out Santorini, say goodbye to beautiful blue Aegean sea, a dreamy little island and a wonderful country and its fabled hospitality.
I would say this plan helped us cover all of the important places that we wanted to visit and could definitely not miss. There are always a few places one can add to a plan if one has more time.
This is one place I would definitely go back to! Maybe fly to one of the other beautiful islands next time!
Hope my short little itinerary helps someone out there who would like to plan such a trip! Please look out for my detailed posts on each city! coming soon….
